The parties have signed the government deal, the new legislature begins.

On Monday 8 November, after the legislative elections in October, the Deputies Chamber took office, kicking off the new legislature.

The parties president of the two coalitions Spolu and PirSTAN signed the government coalition agreement during the inaugural meeting of the new Deputies Chamber. The agreement provides a coalition council twice a year, attended not only by the presidents and vice-presidents of the individual parties, but also by the heads of their parliamentary constituencies and general-directors or general-secretaries. According to the deal, the parties also respect the Prime Minister’s right to propose to the Republic President the designation and revocation of Government members.
The government, made up of 108 deputies from the five parties, will be headed by the Civic Democrats head, Petr Fiala. Fiala sustains that the government must quickly consider the problems that are afflicting the Czech Republic: ‘in addition to short-term tasks, we also have systemic changes that will take the Czech Republic forward. The state must manage better, build flats or roads and give the younger generation a perspective”.

From Wednesday, the chamber will start electing its leadership and bodies. The president of the TOP 09 party, Markéta Adamová Pekarová, with the support of the new coalition, is the favorite for the president position. Markéta focused on future generations and also made it clear that the coalition’s priority is to slow down the country’s debt: “we realize that we are not coming to govern, but to administer the country for future generations”. Vit Austrian, the head of STAN, claims that the government has listened to the voters’ demand for an educational society and a clear shift towards the West. He says: “We will try to make sure that voters do not feel the emotions of disappointment”.
When the opening session of the Deputies Chamber will end, the outgoing government of Andrej Babiš (SI) will resign. According to Fiala, this could happen as early as the second half of this week. The President of the Republic Miloš Zeman is showing no signs of obstruction regarding the election of the new coalition leader Petr Fiala as premier. Even if the inaugural meeting of the Deputies Chamber will be extended, according to Fiala, it will end this week.
