Czech Republic recorded a rapid increase in demand for photovoltaics in the first six months of this year due to rising energy costs

Due to the high energy costs faced by households, individuals and businesses over the past year, interest in and actual installation of domestic photovoltaic energy has increased over the same period, announces the industry association Solární asociace. The Czech Republic’s largest energy supplier, ČEZ, announced that the number of photovoltaic units installed in the first half of the year has practically tripled compared to 2021, with a total production capacity of about 75 Mwp.

Government subsidies for households and businesses have also helped stimulate interest in photovoltaics. One example is the National Recovery Plan call for proposals, which provides grants for the installation of photovoltaics on businesses, which has seen very strong interest from businesses, so much that in just a few weeks they submitted more than 2,500 applications. “Nowadays, photovoltaics are often the easiest and fastest way for people and companies to cut energy costs,” association director Jan Krčmář pointed. In his opinion, the state should reduce bureaucratic obstacles for the construction of new photovoltaic power plants.

According to energy research company EGU Brno, solar energy has the potential to cover almost 27% of the Czech Republic’s total energy consumption. Last year solar energy accounted for about 2.8% of total energy production, according to data statistics.
