Boom in foreign tourists in the third quarter of this year, decline in domestic tourists instead

Summer tourism in the Czech Republic has returned to pre-pandemic levels, as indicated on the data from the third quarter of 2022. From July to the end of September, 7.3 million people have been hosted in hotels and accommodations, 11 percent higher than in 2021, but Prague city still lacks half a million people to reach 2019 levels. Italian tourists are about 25 percent less than in 2019. Regionally, total accommodation guests increased in six regions of the country, thanks to foreign guests. Domestic guests in all regions of the Czech Republic have decreased year on year.

Germans make up more than one-fifth of the foreign tourists in the monitored accommodations (582 thousand arrivals). Compared with the same period (July – September) last year, the number of Germans increased by 57.2 percent. The second largest group is visitors from Slovakia (264 thousand) with an annual increase of 58.1 percent. Polish guests took third place (248,000 arrivals), an annual increase of 73.1 percent. Among non-European countries, residents of the USA were the most numerous in accommodations (139 thousand arrivals), followed then by those from Israel (195 thousand arrivals).
